Incentives
The New Zealand Screen Production Grant (NZSPG) is the New Zealand Government’s screen incentives scheme - a cash rebate available to eligible domestic and international productions, which includes a Post, Digital and Visual Effects (PDV) Grant.
The purpose of the NZSPG for Aotearoa New Zealand productions is to build the sustainability of Aotearoa New Zealand’s screen industry, while the NZSPG for international productions provides industry development and economic benefits to Aotearoa New Zealand.
The NZSPG is equivalent to 40% of Qualifying New Zealand Production Expenditure (QNZPE) for Aotearoa New Zealand productions and Official Co-productions, and 20% of QNZPE for international productions. For PDV productions, the grant is 20% of QNZPE up to NZ$25 million, then 18% of QNZPE NZ$25 million and above. A small number of productions may be invited to apply for an additional 5% uplift if they can demonstrate additional economic benefits to Aotearoa New Zealand.
Minimum QNZPE thresholds apply (see tables below). To qualify for the 40% grant, productions must meet the Significant New Zealand Content Test or be certified as an Official Co-production (more information on Official Co-productions with Aotearoa New Zealand can be found here.
